While not important, this is the dumbest tweet of the day.

“I will say anything to get attention”

Alyssa Milano, over-the-hill C list actress and privileged SJW (that’s social justice warrior for those who appreciate irony), has managed to alienate both her allies and enemies and set back the idiotic cause of intersectionality in a single tweet. She’s the embodiment of the wisdom “it’s better to be silent and have people think you’re an idiot, than open your mouth–or keyboard in this case–and confirm the suspicion.” Or, Proverbs 18:2. “A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, only in expressing her own opinion.” May I present said tweet? May I also ask “how can something called a ‘tweet’ be taken seriously anyway? But I digress. Here’s her, ahem, tweet, apparently in answer to Kirk, who may have challenged her to relate to his issues.

I’m trans. I’m a person of color. I’m an immigrant. I’m a lesbian. I’m a gay man. I’m the disabled. I’m everything. And so are you, Kirk. Don’t be afraid of what you don’t know or understand. No one wants to hurt you. We are all just looking for our happily ever after.”

An apparent ally tweeted, “I’m confident that there are better ways to show solidarity than to claim identities that do not belong to you” (Blair Imani, black, queer and muslim). A probable antagonist tweeted, “Just claiming victim-hood on as many levels as possible.” (Mike).  A clear and articulate antagonist: “Supporting trans people, people of color, immigrants, lesbians, gay men, and disabled people is all well and good. Claiming to BE them just because you “love” them is just sort of asinine and perverts the idea of being an ally. I support disabled people. Doesn’t mean I’m disabled. And to say that I am disabled in ANY way is a lie and entirely unhelpful to the people you claim to support. This isn’t St. Paddy’s day where “everyone’s Irish for a day!” This is real world shit. So perhaps you should choose a more tactful way to be supportive. This is repugnant.” (Rob Gavagan).

Not to be outdone, an ally gets in a shameless plug for the mentally ill: “Hi Alyssa I’m transgender and today is . Letting all my sisters know that it’s not cool to hurt transgender people and that us trans women are like you, except we don’t have a Uterus. Have a blessed day!” (Shawn ☀️Sunshine ☀️Strickland).

Allyssa continues her tonedeafness by replying to everyone: “I’m glad this tweet invoked conversation. I’m so sorry it offended some. I see you and hear you. But just a reminder, empathy is not a bad thing. Nuance is important and literal interpretation is not always intended. And I can identify with and not identify as. Both are powerful,” she wrote.

Oh Alyssa, you forgot to include a few people among your identifications with the downtrodden: the unwilling child brides of Afghanistan et al, the child soldiers of Nigeria et al, the child laborers of India, Pakistan and other ‘stans, the sex trafficking victims of…..well, and everywhere. They are probably harder for you to identify with than the “trans people”, who are first on your list.

  1. LOL! Thanks for the chuckle, I’m not sure how I missed all that. By the way, I’m offended by her mockery of St Paddy’s day and also her reference to “happily ever after.” She’s has culturally appropriated not only the Irish, but my fairy tales, too. 🙂
