Did you see the video of Saint Greta’s (Thunberg, that is) address to the U.N.? This is a very scared child who does not understand much nuance or figurative language (see the 4th paragraph). When the adults around her told her the world was going to end in a decade (or 12 years or 18 years, or was that months?), she sprung into action. She could be commended for taking action when those around her would not, if she were not being used by adults who do not want to be questioned. Questioning Greta will get you savaged by the progressive mob for daring to question a child. See Knowles. But she is right about one thing she said. “I shouldn’t be up here. I should be back in school, on the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to use young people for hope — how dare you!
What of that child? She is moved to tears in anger and horror by what she has been told. Dominic Green, of Standpoint Magazine says, “The Greta phenomenon has involved green lobbyists, PR hustlers, eco-academics, and a think-tank founded by a wealthy ex-minister in Sweden’s Social Democratic government with links to the country’s energy companies. These companies are preparing for the biggest bonanza of government contracts in history: the greening of the Western economies. Greta, whether she and her parents know it or not, is the face of their political strategy.” Around the world hundreds of thousands, if not millions of kids are participating in this Global Climate Strike, a totalitarian endeavor, carrying signs that say, “love bees, save trees“, “there is no planet B“, “Greta says panic” and, needless to say, “a world of reasons to resist Trump“. I beg to differ about planet B–they are already on it. Their world of fear and ignorance is planet B. But whose fault is that? These are children who know nothing that doesn’t appear on their phone feed. It is the fault of adults–for their lack of leadership.
“The climate hysteria movement is not about science,” Michael Knowles said on a Fox News program. “If it were about science, it would be led by scientists rather than by politicians and a mentally ill Swedish child who is being exploited by her parents and by the international left.” This didn’t go over well fellow guest, Democrat Chris Hahn, who sputtered, choking on his saliva, “how dare you” as Knowles continued and said this is a “political and a religious movement on the left”, to which Hahn, in trained seal fashion, barked “You’re a grown man and you’re attacking a child. Shame on you.” “No I’m not, I’m attacking the left for exploiting a mentally ill child,” Knowles said. “Relax, skinny boy!” Hahn shot back. “I got this, okay? You’re attacking a child, you’re a grown man. Have some couth.” Ahem, what did I say in paragraph one?
Thunberg and her family have long been open about her Asperger’s Syndrome, which is a “developmental disorder characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests.” Everything Knowles said was correct and easily verifiable. Thunberg has Asperger syndrome, selective mutism, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and suffered from depression. In 2018, she described her own illnesses in a TEDx Talk, where she explained that she fell into a depression and became ill when she was eleven years old. “I stopped talking. I stopped eating. In two months, I lost about ten kilos of weight. Later on I was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, OCD, and selective mutism—that basically means I only speak when I think it’s necessary.” Oh, that such a symptom would descend on every pontificator (except me)! Knowles is no longer welcome as a guest on Fox News. Does anyone see a connection between that fact, the exchange between Hahn and Knowles, and Greta being USED as a proxy for adults who don’t want to be questioned?
Kids have been running the asylum since the “Free Speech Movement at Berkeley in 1964. Ironically, the lack of adult courage and leadership since then has led to the most of the free speech suppression going on today, on college campuses especially! This anti-freedom trend has even hit childrens’ lemonade stands–in the form of permits and zoning ordinances–to which even a fresh produce stand has also fallen.
The Little Ones Learning Center in Forest Park, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta, in an area where access to fresh fruits and vegetables can be limited, has stepped up to prioritize growing and selling fresh produce from its school gardens. Little Ones has often sold its produce with generous discounts to local food stamp recipients and other neighbors and has been acknowledged as a leader in the farm-to-school healthy food movement. That is, until the city shut down the bi-monthly farm stand program last month for zoning violations. According to the United Way, Clayton County, where this pre-school is located, has the lowest child well-being index out of all the metro Atlanta counties. Despite protests from community members, city officials are holding firm to their stance that allowing one farm stand could lead to an unruly proliferation of fresh produce-gasp!
“Anywhere you live, you’ve got to have rules and regulations,” Forest Park City Manager Angela Redding said. “Otherwise, you would just have whatever,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. That “whatever” is exactly the hope and promise that irks central planners. Whatever symbolizes what is possible when individuals and organizations spontaneously create new streams of value for their neighbors. Is this adults striking back at children for embarrassing their own lack of adult leadership?
